Description

Endurance feet aren't born — they're trained, just like lungs and legs. Sports Akileine TANO Skin Strengthener prepares feet for long distances by strengthening and toughening the plantar skin, accelerating the natural conditioning process that would otherwise take months of gradual mileage. It's the pre-season secret of ultra-runners, trekkers and marathoners whose feet have to survive terrain and hours that soft skin simply can't.

Why podiatrists recommend it

  • Builds resilient skin before the event — strengthens and hardens the plantar surface where blisters and hot spots start
  • Accelerates natural conditioning — achieves in weeks what unaided training mileage takes months to build
  • Made for endurance — specifically recommended for ultra-distance running, trekking and marathon preparation
  • Part of a proven system — the training-phase partner to NOK anti-friction balm from Asepta's sports podiatry range

How to use

Apply to the soles, heels and toes daily (morning is easiest) throughout your training block, starting 3–4 weeks before your event — longer for multi-day treks. Skin conditions progressively, so consistency beats quantity. Then switch roles on event day: TANO has done its job, and NOK anti-friction balm takes over as the race-morning protective layer. Blister-prone athletes should also read our complete blister prevention guide — socks, lacing and taping all multiply what conditioned skin can handle.

TANO or NOK — which Sports Akileine?

TANO (this product) is preparation: weeks-out conditioning that toughens the skin itself. NOK is protection: the event-day balm that eliminates friction on the day. They're designed as a system — TANO through the build-up, NOK on the start line. If your problem is skin that breaks down late in long efforts, start with TANO; if it's specific hot spots from gear or shoes, NOK alone may solve it.

Frequently asked questions

Won't tougher skin just mean more calluses?
No — TANO conditions the skin's resilience rather than building thick callus plaques. Heavy focal callus is a pressure problem (and worth a podiatry review), not the goal here; the aim is uniformly durable skin, not armour plating.

How far out from my event should I start?
Three to four weeks of daily use suits most marathon and trail builds; ultra and multi-day trek preparation benefits from six weeks or more. Starting the week of the event achieves little — conditioning takes time.

Can I use TANO and NOK on the same day?
During training, yes — TANO daily, NOK before long sessions. On race day itself, just NOK; the conditioning work is already banked.

Is it useful for hikers, not just runners?
Very — multi-day trekking is arguably where it shines most, since there's no recovery day between efforts and a blister on day two ruins days three through ten. Start it well before the trip.

Does foot tanning mean it changes skin colour?
No — "tanning" here is the traditional term for conditioning leather-like durability into skin, borrowed from French sports podiatry. It doesn't discolour or stain.
